Swedish Massage (Classic Massage)
Swedish massage techniques use long gliding strokes to bring relaxation to the body, increase blood oxygen levels, decrease muscle toxins, improve circulation, increase flexibility and ease tension. The best-known type of bodywork, Swedish massages are proven to boost the immune system to fight diseases with which we may come into contact. These massages are popular because of the general relaxation and refreshment they provide.

Deep tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage focuses on the deepest layers of muscle and connective tissue, ideal for chronic tension, neck and low back muscle tightness and shoulder soreness. Movement for this massage is slow and concentrated in areas of pain for ease of chronic pain, injury recovery, repetitive strain, limited mobility, fibromyalgia, osteoathritis and TMJ. Deep tissue massages have been documented to lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormone levels and heart rate, and boost mood and relaxation through the release of oxytocin and serotonin.

Neuromuscular Massage (Incorporated with Deep Tissue)
Neuromuscular massage is also known as trigger point therapy (muscular knots) and is an effective treatment for muscle spasms and back pain caused by soft tissue injury and muscle strain. The technique involves the massage therapist using varying levels of pressure with the fingers, knuckles or elbow applied to the area of spasm and held for a period of time. Any soreness from the applied pressure fades within a couple of days and muscles are more relaxed and generally relieved of spasms for a period of time afterward depending on severity of prior back pain as well as stress and activity levels.

Acupressure (Incorporated with Deep Tissue)
Acupressure has roots in acupuncture and involves the use of finger pressure (no needles!) on specific points along the body to release blocked or congested energy centers of toxins that have accumulated in the muscle tissue. This style of massage therapy uses the body’s own energy to restore health and reduce body stiffness that puts abnormal pressure on nerves and blood vessels. Rubbing, kneading, and percussion are used in a rapid circular motion with moderate pressure.

Therapeutic (Massage/Bodywork)
Therapeutic goals can vary considerably between massage therapists and clients. In some cases, massage is recommended by a health professional and may be performed as part of a larger treatment plan. For example, someone attending physiotherapy for an injury might have regular therapeutic massage to loosen muscles, improve muscle tone, and increase their flexibility. Likewise, therapeutic massage can be used to supplement wound care, cancer care, and a variety of other treatments.
